Not Much Time Left

FLASH FICTION FOR ASPIRING WRITERS

FFfAW Challenge-Week of 8-01-2017

This week’s photo prompt is provided by TJ Paris. Thank you TJ!

“My father taught me and I will teach you!”, said Mohit to his 10-year-old daughter, Shikha. Shikha was more than excited to accompany her father for kayaking. “Dad, I’ve seen you do this a hundred times.” Mohit gave a smile, “I know, honey! But the sea can be really ruthless. Sometimes it’s calm, sometimes it shows no mercy.”

“I will stay by your side and will not go far. Now, please! Can we go today!”, urged Shikha. She made a face which is the ultimate weapon. Mohit had to agree.

It was perfect. Shikha was a natural. Mohit’s wife was waving at both of them from the shore. Mohit saw, from a distance, his daughter reaching the beach and hugging her mother. A tear came out of his eyes.

He was 15 years old when his father allowed him to come anywhere near the kayak. Shikha is young but he had to teach her before it’s too late. You see, he does not have much time left with her, with both of them.
